He Who Chirps Loudest

I have always been told I am not a quiet person. Luckily for me and many others with the same condition, there are ways to be loud, without losing your voice. The Internet provides the solution.

The Internet is where people are getting their news. The Internet helps you build a personal connection with voters. The Internet saves you a ton of money. The Internet makes your time more productive. And thanks to cool websites like Twitter, it is easier than ever.

A super example of this is when Senator DeMint twittered away on the senate floor Sunday, while he was waiting to speak against Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid.

Not only was he reaching out to voters on the web and telling them what he was up to (establishing that personal connection), he was setting an example of how effective the Internet is (saving him money- he didn’t have to hire a carrier pigeon to get his word out) and increasing his productivity. The result? His tweet hit it big on top political blogs.

More people than ever are getting their news from the Internet. Information from the PEW Research Center shows that “for Americans under the age of 30, nearly 60% list the internet as a primary news source.”

I couldn’t even tell you the last time I picked up a newspaper.

Actually, I can, it was two weeks ago, when I was at home and needed a movie time. And the only reason why I flipped through the ink pages was because both of my brothers were on the computers in our house and would not Google it for me.

But that not news.

Congratulations to DeMint for using Twitter to be loud and making the Internet work for him.

Be sure to check out SC Tweets as well. This super cool site is your one stop shop for seeing what South Carolina politicians, politicos and media are doing.
